With its internationally important collection of textiles, weird and wonderful objects from around the world, and a varied programme of exhibitions and events, there is much to see and enjoy.

The historic house of the Akroyd family is also home to the Duke of Wellington’s Regimental Museum.

For the First World War Centenary in 2014-2018, Bankfield Museum is hosting a new award-winning exhibition and series of events to explore the region's contribution to the First World War and its impact on the region.

For King and Country

Bankfield Museum’s exhibition commemorating the region's wartime contribution and experiences has been awarded the 2015 Public History Prize by the Royal Historical Society.

The exhibition features over 200 objects, 200 images and archives and 60 local stories to explore local experiences during the First World War. From soldiers, sailors and nurses to those at home working in munitions, hospitals and fundraising.

In 2016, new displays to mark the centenary of the Battle of the Somme opened on 1 July. We are also hosting a new series of Centenary Talks @Bankfield for 2016 (listed below) and a Great War Memorabilia Day on 12 November. The exhibition runs until December 2018 with changes to the galleries and events each year. See our website for more details.

Saturday Art Club

Fantastic fun for a Saturday morning. Children aged 8-14 years can take part in a fun and creative workshop at Bankfield Museum where we explore a variety of art and craft activities using the gallery exhibitions and museum collections for inspiration.
