Ceredigion Museum is housed in a restored Edwardian Theatre. It has been described as 'one of the most beautiful museum interiors in Britain'.

Ceredigion Museum is a vibrant, welcoming institution which through well thought out displays and exhibitions attempts to deepen the understanding of the history and culture of the county to the people of Ceredigion and its visitors.

We make accessible our collections and information about them, which we hold in trust for the community we serve.
This is achieved by collecting, documenting, preserving and interpreting material evidence of Ceredigion's past for the public benefit.

The museum displays objects of all ages from the county of Ceredigion (Cardiganshire). Most of the displays are of the Victorian period and later

Key artists and exhibits

  • The museum has a large collection of oil paintings by Alfred Worthington,1835-1925. There is also a fine collection of taxidermy by the Hutchings family of Aberystwyth who worked between the 1860s and 1942.

Margaret Jones: Celebrating 100

Award winning illustrator Margaret Jones is 100 years old this year. To celebrate the occasion Ceredigion Museum is mounting an exhibition of original illustrations and preparatory drawings, owned by the Jones family. Also on display will be archive photo albums and unpublished books giving a previously unseen private view of the artist and her life.
Exhibition opens 27 October, 2pm.
