The setting of Marble Hill House along the river and close to Hampton Court is significant: the Richmond area was very popular with the aristocracy and, as a consequence, attracted the foremost artists of the time. A great patron of the arts, Henrietta Howard regularly entertained celebrated poets and wits of the day at the house, including Pope, Swift and Gay. Today, Marble Hill House is furnished with some of its original contents as well as with a wealth of fine paintings and objets d’art to reflect its first owner’s tastes.
