Donkeys, those former beasts of burden remembered by the 'older generation' from visits to the seaside, are now not such a common sight in the landscape.

However the Rural Life Centre is celebrating these once overworked and poorly treated creatures with a special 'Donkey Day Out.'

More than 20 donkeys will be taking part in everything from the grand parade to individual demonstrations of how they have helped mankind worldwide over the centuries.

Owners will also be on hand to tell visitors about how to take care of donkeys and visitors will be able to meet the animals at close quarters.

The event is organised on behalf of the Donkey Breed Society by John and Rosemary Porter of Follyoak Donkeys in Farnham.
