Exhibition: Gérard Rancinan - Wonderful World, Londonewcastle Project Space, London, until June 24 2012

This weekend you have the chance to be immortalised. Photographer Gérard Rancinan is holding auditions for a starring role in his show. Though by the time you’ve made your way around the gallery, you may be thinking twice about appearing in one of his fierce and satirical works.

The gallery houses a real working studio fully equipped to deliver one of the French photographer's iconoclastic shots. And this shot promises to be the climax to a seven-year project by Rancinan, so don’t expect him to go easy on you.

Wonderful World is the final show in three part series Trilogy of the Moderns, and its arrival in East London in the summer of the Olympics promises to give the work additional charge. As the artist puts it:

“Shoreditch and East London has a very special energy...much of which resonates closely with the ideas behind Wonderful World. It’s truly a fitting location to bring this project to a close, and we are very excited about working with The Future Tense [producers] to deliver some dramatic ideas.”

With a decapitated Mickey Mouse featuring in at least one of the shots, Rancinan makes his points in a fairly direct way. But his high gloss works seem witty enough to forgive the hand over fist approach. If they speak the language of advertising, they also subvert its message.

Some 15 large format images promise plenty of impact in their Bethnal Green space. Meanwhile, texts by writer Caroline Gaudriault offer a dialogue with Rancinan's narrative driven work.
