Aiming to be the world’s most widespread drawing festival, the Campaign for Drawing initiative will take place in hundreds of venues in 20 countries between October 1 and November 2.

“I loved drawing as a child,” said Wilson, who led some of the sessions on the day.

“I still do now, even though I don't think I'm very good at it.

“I think it’s a wonderful idea to have a whole month worth of activities aimed at encouraging absolutely everyone to pick up a pencil.”

Deuchars, who is best known for the do-it-yourself approach of her Let’s Make Some Great Art series of books, enjoyed the launch.

“There was a great atmosphere with creativity going on all around,” she said.

“I tried to encourage an art space where those that might be a bit scared of the white paper and pencils could come.

“My activity was based on a printmaking technique from my new book Draw Paint Print like the Great Artists.

“It's where you use foam boards as a woodblock substitute. You can draw on it, carve into it or punch marks into it, then roller it with ink and print onto paper.

“It was a big messy table full of colour and children and adults alike got stuck in.

“It was a bit like an art production line. I've never had a such a busy, productive workshop."
