Artworks reflecting neo-romantic painter John Piper’s “unique” views of Snowdonia and beyond have been bought by National Museum Wales. Made between the early 1940s and the mid-1950s, the works – acquired for £974,000 – attracted thousands of visitors during a tour in 2012.

Much of the collection will feature in the exhibition, Wales Visitation: Poetry, Romanticism and Myth in Art Imagined, opening at National Museum Cardiff tomorrow (February 22 2014).
