New Coastal Culture Trail in Sussex links Towner, Jerwood and De La Warr Pavilion

Trail preview: Coastal Culture Trail, Towner, Eastbourne; De La Warr Pavilion, Bexhill-on-Sea; Jerwood Gallery, Hastings

The historic art deco home of the De La Warr Pavilion and the sleek, award-winning modernism of Towner may be separated by decades, but a new 20-mile weekend trail makes the most of their close geographical proximity.

Teaming up with the Jerwood in Hastings, where the paint is barely dry following its well-received opening earlier this summer, this new trail has picked an opportune time to begin: Fiona Rae and the Chapman Brothers are among the artists whose work you can wonder at on a seaside saunter between the triumvirate.

Some of Sussex’s finest sights are just outside those gallery windows. Follow the suggested route and you’ll enjoy Hastings’ contemporary seafront and Bexhill’s Edwardian features precede, as well as views over the South Downs National Park which Towner sits at the foot of.

A full programme of events accompany the first summer for a trail composed for an idyllic day out.
