Church of St John the Divine

The Grade II listed Anglican parish church was built thanks to the generosity of wealthy Manchester banker Samuel Brooks. He commissioned Alfred Waterhouse, one of the greatest architects of Victorian England, to design the building, and the "church in the fields" was consecrated in 1868. The stained glass windows are the work of the finest Victorian and Edwardian glaziers, including examples by Edward Burne- Jones, Daniel Cottier, and Charles Kempe.
