The Bear Space began in September 2001, taking a once multi-coloured large ex-pub (the Brown Bear), and transforming it into a unique space. After much hard work and perseverance, the Bear Space has become known as a place of opportunity for artists in London, to react to contemporary culture and highlight underground cultural feelings that exist within the artistic communities.
Many exhibiting artists are local to the South London area, as it is a cultural hot bed of creativity at the moment. Artists are selected from studios, underground exhibitions, random art events and young artists, who catch the imagination of the gallery representatives.
