Soldiers, Socks and Scullery Maids

29 March 2013 — 19 March 2014 *on now

Life on the Brodsworth estate in both world wars is explored in a new exhibition, with audio recordings offering vivid personal stories of when the army requisitioned the hall in the 1940s.

As people left to serve in both wars, those at home supported the war effort, making ‘comforts’ for troops and raising funds. Highlights include letters from men in the trenches thanking a school girl for her knitting, and garments made for servicemen in the Second World War. A series of events is linked to the exhibition.
