Piece Hall Art Gallery

The Piece Hall is a unique Grade 1 listed Georgian masterpiece in the very heart of Halifax, West Yorkshire. This well loved landmark has stood proud for over 230 years.

Calderdale Council with the help of a successful bid to the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) for £7million, will transform this extraordinary building into a world class heritage destination in the heart of the North of England

The £18.9m transformation project will see the Piece Hall turned into a popular visitor attraction boasting quality shops; cafes; restaurants, creative businesses and an exciting events programme. A new Heritage Interpretation Centre and Visitor Orientation Centre will be created. New learning facilities will showcase the extraordinary heritage of the Piece Hall and explain the important role it plays in Yorkshire’s history.

The centrepiece of the scheme will be the upgrading of the courtyard into a spectacular town square.

Work is expected to commence in late 2013 and will be done in phases to enable the Piece Hall to remain open throughout. It is expected to be completed in 2015, when it will transfer to an independent Trust.
