Scarborough Art Gallery, situated in Scarborough’s Regency Crescent just off the town centre, houses the Borough’s fine art collection. Our Gallery spaces tell the story of the town and its various influences over the years through the wonderful paintings which feature seascapes and views of Scarborough. Learn about the influence of the sea, Scarborough’s early history as a holiday resort and how fashion spoke volumes about your status and position in society.
The Gallery has a lively temporary exhibition programme that features contemporary work by professional artists. Events for all the family are featured throughout the year and especially over the school holiday period.
Fears, Foes & Faeries is the 2012 feature exhibition running from 23 March to 30 Sept.

The collection at Scarborough Art Gallery is of great local significance and includes subjects in the town and area by local artists from throughout history. There are oils and watercolours of Scarborough, by artists of the nineteenth century such as John Wilson Carmichael and Henry Barlow Carter. Also on display are nationally important artists from the twentieth century such as Ivon Hitchens and Matthew Smith. These displays change throughout the year, though visitors will always see the magnificent Atkinson Grimshaws.
