The collection at Scarborough Art Gallery is of great local significance and includes subjects in the town and area by local artists from throughout history. There are oils and watercolours of Scarborough, by artists of the nineteenth century such as John Wilson Carmichael and Henry Barlow Carter. Also on display are nationally important artists from the twentieth century such as Ivon Hitchens and Matthew Smith. These displays change throughout the year, though visitors will always see the magnificent Atkinson Grimshaws.

15 May 2010

The Art Gallery is taking part in Museums at Night and is opening its doors late. During the night we will be hosting a 'Speed Drawing' event, this will be a lively mix of life and object drawing. This will also be a great opportunity to speak to curators about the permanent collection, and generally unwind in the surroundings of this grand Villa. We will be serving wine and refreshments in the coffee lounge! The life drawing class will start at 7.30pm, booking is required for this part of the night as we can only accommodate 30 adults.
