Harlow Carr is a garden dominated by water, stone and woodland and is very much part of the surrounding Yorkshire landscape.

We seek to push the boundaries of design and planting styles, creating displays that are beautiful but sometimes provocative. Careful gardening techniques, reflecting our respect for the environment, ensures that wildlife will flourish in the garden.

Getting there

The Garden is situated on Crag Lane, off Otley Road (B6162) about a mile and a half from the centre of Harrogate. Sat Nav users: please use postcode HG3 1UE. Car parking is free.

By bus
Service 6 runs from Harrogate bus station every 20 minutes, Mondays to Saturdays, and every hour on Sundays. Please note that this route has been changed and is no longer servicing the bus stop nearest the garden. The nearest bus stop is now located approximately 5-10 minute walk away on Otley Road. We appreciate that this is not ideal for many of our visitors and are doing what we can to address this. RHS Garden Harlow Carr has joined with Harrogate District Travel to welcome ‘Heritage Vouchers’ which offer bus travellers discounted admission to the gardens. Contact Harrogate and District Travel on 01423 566061.

Thirty cycle racks are available at the gardens.

By foot
A lovely walk runs from Valley Gardens in Harrogate, up through the Pine Woods to RHS Garden Harlow Carr, taking approximately an hour at a leisurely pace. A detailed map is available from the Harrogate Tourist Information Centre or RHS Garden Harlow Carr.

A new workshop for 2014 looking at the techniques for making twiggy natural Christmas trees with a difference. You will be using willow, hazel and birch to create these inspirational and contemporary decorations and will be able to take your creation home.

Make this Christmas a greener one with your own handmade stars, swags and garlands using willow, birch, hazel bark and pine cones. You may choose to bring some of your own natural materials from home to share with the group and to incorporate into your own decoration.

Christmas wreaths

  • 10 December 2014 10am-2:30pm

Come and make a Christmas door wreath in this wonderful seasonal workshop. Rachel will show you how to make a moss ring, wire it to incorporate foliage, and then decorate it with beautiful natural materials. At the end of the session you will have made your own stunning wreath to adorn your home! This course is suitable for beginners or those with some experience.

Guided walk: Harlow Carr at Christmas

  • 12 December 2014 10am-12:30pm

Join Harlow Carr's Katherine Musgrove to discover the special plants that provide winter beauty in the winter walk, woodland and ornamental borders. Katherine will give you ideas about how you can make your garden interesting in this tricky season and will show you Harlow Carr's impressive natural Christmas decorations. The walk will end with a mince pie and warm drink!

Admission

Tea and coffee and a mince pie are included. The walk will be based entirely in the gardens so please come prepared with suitable clothing and footwear.
