For two hundred years Cannon Hall was home to the Spencer Stanhope family. From the 1760's the architect John Carr of York was commissioned to extend and alter the house while the designer Richard Woods was hired to landscape the parks and gardens.

Cannon Hall Museum contains collections of fine furniture, old master paintings, stunning glassware and colourful pottery. In addition it is home to 'Charge!', the Regimental Museum of the 13th/18th Royal Hussars (Queen Mary's Own).

Language Through Paintings

Aimed at KS2/3 children and designed to meet the needs of gifted and talented pupils, while being relevant to a mixed ability class. This half-day session was designed by Barnsley's Performing Arts Development Service (PADS). The session aims to use some of Cannon Hall's or the Cooper Gallery's collections of paintings to inspire children to use their literacy skills creatively.

Victorian Servant Visit

Aimed at KS1-KS3 children, this visit is flexible so that teachers can choose from a range of activities that would have been carried out by Victorian servants. Choose between various kitchen, household crafts or cleaning duties. This visit can be for a full or half day.
