Brendan Flynn, the Curator of our anniversary exhibition, A Place for Art: The Story of the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists, will provide an overview of the foundation and development of the RBSA. Guest speakers will include Dr Connie Wan, Pop Art Curator at Wolverhampton Art Gallery, and Dr Sally Hoban, Heritage and Training Officer at the Birmingham Assay Office

The afternoon will consider the connections between art and industry. Focusing on the centre of Birmingham, the birthplace of Edward Burne-Jones and David Cox, you will examine art in the context of the Industrial Revolution.

Every Picture tells a Story

Join Jo as she guides you through our anniversary exhibition, A Place for Art: The Story of the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists, on show in Galleries 1 & 2. You will discuss artworks from the past and use your imagination to explore their different meanings. This workshop is ideal for families who are less confident in making art and is suitable for all abilities.

Painting Portraits

Take inspiration from our anniversary exhibition, A Place for Art: The Story of the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists, to create your own giant portrait using wax resist techniques. Make swirling patterns and quirky faces in bright colours by using oil crayons, paints, and inks. This workshop is suitable for all abilities and provides a great introduction to making artwork.

The RBSA has facilities to hold up to 30 children for curriculum based workshops and tours of the gallery.
The RBSA also provides outreach services to schools.
