Craft Exhibition

‘If you want a golden rule that will fit everything, this is it: Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful’. William Morris, lecture before the Birmingham Society of Arts and School of Design (1880).

Acknowledging the RBSA’s close connections with the Pre-Raphaelites
and the Arts and Crafts movement, this exhibition explores the continuing influence of Victorian and Edwardian pattern and design on contemporary craft.

Artist Demonstration

Watch Marylane at work using pastels as she seeks to ‘capture the beauty of the moment’. To coincide with the Birmingham and Beyond exhibition on show in Galleries 1 and 2.

Family Friendly Workshop

  • 7 December 2014 2-4pm

Use a variety of craft materials to make an exploding book. Taking inspiration from all things festive, you will learn to combine drawing and folding skills to create your own design. Why not make a personal gift for a loved one in time for Christmas!

Suitable for

  • 5-6
  • 7-10
  • 11-13

Admission

This workshop is suitable for children aged 6 to 12. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Please book in advance to enable the Gallery to confirm numbers and prepare resources.

Places are limited to 8 children. Allocation will take place on a first come first served basis, subject to receipt of full non-transferable and non-refundable payment.

Curriculum based workshops and tours on request

The RBSA has facilities to hold up to 30 children for curriculum based workshops and tours of the gallery.
The RBSA also provides outreach services to schools.
