David was involved with the RBSA for four decades. This solo show celebrates his evocative still life and distinctive urban and coastal landscapes.

Prize exhibition

6 — 29 June 2013 *on now

This exhibition attracts entries from talented artists across the UK. Artists are invited to enter work in all media (except photography). Works including jewellery, ceramics and textiles as well as drawing, painting and printmaking are all welcome entries.

There will be three cash prizes for this exhibition. The first prize is the RBSA prize of £1,000, funded by the GMC Trust. All works exhibited will be eligible for this prize. The winner will be selected by the Selection Committee.

The second prize is the Alec Morison Watercolour Prize of £500. All watercolours exhibited will be eligible for this prize. The winner will be selected by Mr Michael Thompson, a Trustee of the Alec Morison Trust.

The third prize is the £250 Roslyn Zalin Memorial Prize. All works exhibited will be eligible for this prize. The winner will be selected by the Selection Committee.

There will also be a runner-up prize of a £50 RBSA voucher.

We would like to thank the GMC Trust, the Alec Morison Trust and the Zalin family for their generous donations which have made these prizes possible.

Woodlands craft exhibition

Take a walk through the woods this spring at the RBSA Gallery. An exhibition alive with the sights and smells of the forest, ‘Woodlands’ showcases jewellery and ceramics inspired by the flora and fauna of Britain’s woodlands alongside innovative work exploring the potentials of wood as a craft medium. Delightful jewellery by Layla Amber Rous, Phoebe Sherwood-Moore and Lucy Ramsbottom is on show together with wooden homeware by Swedish designer Lotta Cole and wood-fired ceramics by Hannah McAndrew.

Blast off into a galaxy far away with ‘Galactic’, an exhibition exploring the spectacle and wonders of outer space. From jewellery inspired by meteorites and shooting stars through to space-age ceramics and ethereal glass, this exhibition offers an opportunity for stargazing right in the heart of Brum! Work on display includes futuristic jewellery in precious metals by Mandana Oskoui, Emily Thatcher and Annie Cracknell, as well as Samantha Donaldson’s stunning glass forms inspired by rock minerals.

Summer Workshop: The Textured Landscape

Learn how to apply oil paint with a palette knife rather than a brush to create different surfaces and textures in your landscapes. Suitable for intermediates and above, aged 18 and above.

Taking natural forms as the subject matter, the first exercises will engage the ‘objective eye’ by mapping what we see using pencil. The second exercises will help us experience the rhythmical qualities of line using brushes and inks.
