Situated where the Valley Colliery once stood we now have over 30 acres of green space on the edge of Cannock Chase. Today the hills form one of the last remaining areas of heathland in Britain.

The library is open by appointment only.

The museum has five formal display galleries. The Local History Gallery - Tracing the Chase, The Miner's Cottage - depicting life at the turn of the twentieth century, Toys and Games Past and Present - Relive your childhood memories in our Toys gallery, Seven Centuries of Coal - find out about Cannock's industrial heritage, The 1940s Room - domestic life during the Second World War. In addition to these, a temporary exhibition programme runs throughout the year offering visitors the opportunity to see objects from the museum's reserve collections as well as those from other museums and private collections.

Easter Extravaganza!

Tuesday 15 & Wednesday 16 April – Easter Extravaganza! Create everything Easter - cards, crowns, baskets, bunnies, lambs, chicks and flowers!

Tuesday 22, Wednesday 23 and Thursday 24 April – Be inspired by the books of Julia Donaldson & Axel Scheffler to create your own monsters, mobiles, stick men, bookmarks, door hangers, animal masks and a witch on a broom!

11am to 3pm each day £1.50 per child – No need to book, just drop in! Adults go free.
These are workshops for all the family to enjoy, so children must be accompanied.

Sue Prince - Artist in Residence

Award-winning Artist Sue Prince comes to the museum to talk about and demonstrate her work

On Thursday 24th April 2014
10.30am to 2pm – Free admission

Award-winning artist Sue Prince uses her unique style to tell stories of people and their places. Inspired by Swedish folk art, her highly unusual works are pictorial stories about the rural and natural environment, created in egg tempera on linen and canvas.
Sue has exhibited her work all over the world to great acclaim. See her latest exhibition ‘The World that Hands Built’ at the museum until 27th April.

Treasure! Discovering the Staffordshire Hoard

  • 16 May 2014 5-9pm

Listen to stories, create Anglo-Saxon crafts and discover the hoard found here in Staffordshire. The exhibition will be open to view, whilst there are themed activities for all of the family to join in with throughout the evening.
The galleries, shop and coffee shop will be open too.
