Victorian Activities at St John's Museum
- 9 September 2013 — 31 May 2016 *on now
St John’s Museum offers the chance for school children to experience life as a Victorian with the following interactive sessions:
The Victorian Schoolroom: Experience life as a Victorian student, with a ‘Victorian’ teacher taking the children through the elements of a typical school day in 1888; the 3Rs, drill, an object lesson and even vocal gymnastics!
Victorian Schoolroom Extension Activities: This enables the class to have some extra time to get to grips with life in a Victorian schoolroom. Children can discover what a Victorian art lesson involved, try their very best copy-book handwriting or turn their hand to sewing.
Victorian Laundry: Experience doing the washing without electricity with Charlotte our laundry-maid! Children take turns to pump the water, grate the soap, use the dolly and the posser in the tub and mangle the washing before hanging it out to dry.
Upstairs, Downstairs: Investigate everyday life in two very different Victorian households; a small terraced house and a grand town house.
Mop Caps to Top Hats: Explore what Victorian children and adults wore through trying on a range of replica and real clothing from our handling collection!
Discover St John’s Museum: Children take a discover pack, with quiz cards, and look around this historic building– inside and out. (This session is free of charge)
Cost £2 per pupil for LEA Warwickshire schools, £3 per pupil for all non Warwickshire schools, academies and private schools. Minimum charge £30 per session.
