The Museum Of Modern Art, Wales (MOMA WALES) has grown up alongside The Tabernacle, a former Wesleyan chapel which in 1986 reopened as a centre for the performing arts. MOMA WALES has 7 beautiful exhibition spaces which present a diverse exhibition programme of modern art exhibitions throughout the year. Featuring leading artists from across Wales, the exhibitions offer a range of group and solo shows. Many pieces are for sale. Exhibitions from the growing Tabernacle Collection are also included in the new Tannery Gallery, opened in 2014.

The adjacent auditorium has perfect acoustics and pitch-pine pews to seat 300 people. It is ideal for chamber and choral music, drama, lectures and conferences. Translation booths, recording facilities and a cinema screen have been installed; the oak-beamed Foyer has a bar; and extensive access for disabled people is made possible by a lift, and a ramped approach.

The Machynlleth Festival takes place in the auditorium in late August every year. During the week eminent performers take part in events ranging from Welsh choirs and classical recitals to jazz. Support of all kinds is given by the Friends of The Tabernacle.

For the rest of the year the centre can be hired for performances, rehearsals and gatherings. A number of classes are held each week in the Green Room. Ty Llyfnant is equipped with music teaching rooms and an artists’ studio.
