Ceredigion Museum is housed in a restored Edwardian Theatre. It has been described as 'one of the most beautiful museum interiors in Britain'.

Ceredigion Museum is a vibrant, welcoming institution which through well thought out displays and exhibitions attempts to deepen the understanding of the history and culture of the county to the people of Ceredigion and its visitors.

We make accessible our collections and information about them, which we hold in trust for the community we serve.
This is achieved by collecting, documenting, preserving and interpreting material evidence of Ceredigion's past for the public benefit.

The museum displays objects of all ages from the county of Ceredigion (Cardiganshire). Most of the displays are of the Victorian period and later

Key artists and exhibits

  • The museum has a large collection of oil paintings by Alfred Worthington,1835-1925. There is also a fine collection of taxidermy by the Hutchings family of Aberystwyth who worked between the 1860s and 1942.

The Ceredigion local history group has been tirelessly researching this and many other tavern related facts, come along to this fascinating new exhibition celebrating one of Wales's greatest traditions.

Stuffed, Pickled and Pinned

From pickled snakes to rare eggs, museums across Wales house some amazing natural treasures. From February 24th to April 22nd, Ceredigion museum will have on display weird and wacky wonders that have been found in over 18 Welsh museums. The Linking Natural Science Collection is made up of hidden treasures that have been brought together for an exciting new exhibition. The exhibition sheds light on how that life has evolved, show how it is still changing in the modern world and even how our actions might affect it in the future.

Ian Phillips

Ian Phillips: Taking Stock

Ian Phillips distinct depictions of Welsh landscapes capture the romantic beauty of its rugged coastlines, sloping contours, stormy seas and majestic mountains. The display of the artist work from 2002-2016 takes stock of his rich seam of work from early days to present, by 'Taking Stock' he can decide on the future direction of his work.
