Chepstow Museum reveals the rich and varied past of this ancient town, once an important port and market centre. Wine trade, shipbuilding and salmon fishing are among Chepstow's many industries featured in displays with atmospheric settings. Photographs, programmes and posters recall the pastimes of local people, while 18th and 19th century paintings and prints illustrate the everlasting appeal of Chepstow and the Wye Valley to artists and tourists alike. The Museum is just across the road from Chepstow Castle in an elegant 18th century houses built by a prosperous Chepstow merchant family.

Supporters Scheme Launch Evening

  • 13 May 2015 6-8pm

This special event marks the Chepstow launch of our new Supporters Scheme and is part of the Museums at Night celebrations.

Come along to find out more about the Scheme and enjoy a taster of the kind of benefits being a Supporter can bring as you have an exclusive viewing of some of the new acquisitions in our Wye Tour collection featuring Tintern Abbey and Chepstow Castle. These paintings have been purchased thanks to the Heritage Lottery Fund's Collecting Cultures grant scheme.

The event will also include opportunities to hear our Curator speak about the paintings and their significance. The Museum Service's Paper Conservator will also be on hand to give advice about caring for paintings.

Drinks and nibbles will be provided and there will be lots of opportunity to find out more about becoming a member of the Supporter Scheme.

This event is free but we’d be grateful if you could let us know you wish to attend by emailing or speaking with the Fundraising Team on 01291 625981.

This events would not be possible without the help of the Heritage Lottery Fund who have supported the set-up of the Monmouthshire Museums Supporters Scheme.
