A free conference in London next month (March 17) is inviting Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics teachers to debate new methods of presenting the subjects and the gap between classroom learning and the industry.

A series of round-table discussions at the baseLearning event will ponder the education and skills required for pupils to succeed in a low-carbon economy, exploring how the sectors can unite to inspire and engage young people.

Mike Tomlinson, chair of the government's Working Group for 14-19 which is reforming the syllabus structure for teenage learners, leads a cast of well-informed speakers including Wellcome Trust Head of Education Derek Bell and Department for Children, Schools and Families formulator Kate Bellingham.

The event takes place at ExCel, London Docklands, March 17 2010. Visit the event website to register for a free place, view the full line-up of speakers and find out more.
