With the Staffordshire Hoard in the news at the moment, we thought you'd like links to the UK museums' resources all about treasure.

Scroll on down for:
The Staffordshire Hoard
Search the Culture24 website for treasure news from the UK museums

The Staffordshire Hoard
Described by Leslie Webster, former Keeper of Prehistory and Europe at the British Museum as the metalwork equivalent of finding a new Lindisfarne Gospels or Book of Kells, the 2009 discovery of the Staffordshire Hoard is set to change archaeologists' ideas about Anglo-Saxon England in the seventh and early eight centuries - perhaps more than Sutton Hoo did in relation to:
The history of metalwork and metalwork production
The history of manuscripts
Anglo-Saxon kingdoms
The transition from paganism to Christianity
Battles

The Staffordshire Hoard website is teacher-facing rather than child-friendly but does have the latest news on the Hoard and lots of detailed info on the artefacts of the Staffordshire Hoard.

There's also a link to their Flickr stream of stunning Staffordshire Hoard images. Great for the interactive whiteboard.

Search the Culture24 website for treasure news from the UK museums
Why not have a look on the Culture24 website for more treasure related stories from around the UK, including Archaeological treasures unearthed at 2012 Olympic Park site - as shown in the photo at the top of the this feature. There are useful images in the news stories and your pupils might enjoy finding out more about treasures being unearthed around the UK. Just type treasure into the Search box at the top right hand corner of the page and click on the Search or press your return key.

A History of the World
Also making headlines is A History of the World in 100 Objects, the BBC's partnership with the British Museum. There's a Learning section with a link to lesson plans and activities as well as details on how to add your object to A History of the World. You'll find the Primary History with a History of the World microsite and a pdf on how your school can get involved in the project.

Relic - Guardians of the Museum
We like what we've seen so far of the new series Relic - Guardians of the Museum on CBBC. It has a distinct Doctor Who feel to it, especially in relation to the 'baddies'. Here's the link to the Relic game.

Online treasure games

Help the archaeologists find the historical treasures buried in the ground with The Big Dig Game from the Museum of London.

Treasure Hunt from Ordnance Survey is a great treasure challenge game too.

Next up are not strictly treasure games but they're pretty close.

Birmingham Museums & Art Gallery's Curator Collection game is a straightforward interactive and can fit in with History topics, including the Egyptians and WWII.

You can find V&A Families online's Cabinet of curiosity via the drop down menu in their Games gallery section. Pupils can discover just what a Cabinet of curiosity is and then create their own online with the museum collections .

ArtisanCam have a couple of jewellery making interactives. There is Jewellery with Stephanie Summerhill and the Jewellery Designer interactive too.

As we find more resources, we will be adding them to this feature. Happy treasure hunting!
