Hindu god Shiva, lord of the dance© Trustees of the British Museum
British Museum
The British Museum’s Young explorers’ microsite has pupil-friendly text and the images are large enough for the class to see on the whiteboard. There you’ll discover Shiva, the lord of the dance in the Gods and spirits’ section.
There are more gods, including Vishnu, in the British Museum’s online collection.
Explore Early Hinduism via the British Museum’s website, Ancient India. The story, explore section and challenge suit whiteboard use too.
You can find extra Ancient Civilizations websites on the British Museum's website.
V&A
Both Hinduism and Diwali are included in the V&A online collection.
There are some lovely images for you in the V&A’s online collection. For example the Diwali picture, A princess and ladies celebrating Diwali in a palace courtyard, c. 1760, Lucknow by Hunhar, is great for assembly use.
Or how about A devotee performing puja, c.1520-40, possibly Mewar?
We also like the image of Rama and Sita – a useful resource if you’re studying their story with your class.
The British Library
The Sacred Texts interactive on the British Library website has the story of Rama and Sita as well as Nachiketa and Yama. These are perfect for interactive whiteboard use and we like the inclusion of subtitles and background info and questions.
