News: Great arty events are taking place in the UK for Children's Art Day 2009
Children's Art Day, organised by engage the National Association for Gallery Education, takes place on July 9 2009.
It ties in nicely with Shine (July 6-10 2009), the national festival celebrating talent in young people. The focus on July 9 will be the visual arts, with more than 175 events taking place around the UK.
Arts venues, schools and community organisations will be getting arty with everything from artists' workshops and craft sessions through to family activities, sculpture and photography.
School-based events have their own special section on the engage website.
You can also check out Engage's website for a full list of family events.
Highlights nationwide are set to include:
There are activities at major London venues, including family art workshops at the Design Museum, an exploration of the Royal Academy's Summer Exhibition and fancy dress at the Victoria and Albert Museum.
You can explore the Lake District through the eyes of artist and poet, Edward Lear, at the Wordsworth Trust in Grasmere.
There are drawing and art activities inspired by the collections at Manchester Museums' Discovery Centre and Birmingham's Ikon Gallery.
There will be art in public spaces right across Scotland, including Edinburgh's Camping in the City project, drawing activities in the grounds of Falkirk's Park Gallery and street art and shadowgraphs at the University of St Andrews.
Newport Museum and Art Gallery has print-making on offer as well as an exhibition curated by local school children.
If your school is taking part, we'd love to hear from you. Please get in touch with our Learners and Teachers Web Editor, Rachel Hayward, at email@example.com.
