Tiverton Museum is a vibrant, award-winning and much loved museum that provides extensive displays on local history. It runs a lively events programme, including temporary exhibitions (on anything from the history of underwear to local farming memories), guided walks, talks, holiday craft activities, themed days and lots more. The museum is proud to be family friendly and has won several awards in the last couple of years, including the GOLD Small Visitor Attraction, Visit Devon Awards 2013 and the Bronze Small Visitor Attraction at the South West Tourism Awards 2013/14.

Munitions and Matrons

  • 8 August — 19 December 2015 *on now

An exhibition examining the contribution that the Heathcoat Factory made to the war effort during the First World War. From 1915 the factory produced shell cases and components for very early gas masks.

The exhibition explores the relationships between the factory and the town, the VAD hospital and the Heathcoat Amory family, as well as some of the stories of the people who worked there.

Knightshayes At War, The Museum and Knightshayes Court have been working together to produce related exhibitions. Knightshayes became a VAD (Voluntary Aid Detachment) hospital in 1915. 'Knightshayes At War' is a special exhibition looking at the history of the hospital which will be on from 1st August to 15th November.

Family Christmas Craft Activities

  • 28 November 2015 11am-12:30pm

Craft activities with a Christmas theme on Saturday 28th November 11:00-12:30. £2.50 per child. , Family craft activities: booking essential (places are limited) and there is a small charge (5Op discount on family craft activities for members of the museum). Call the Museum or email education@tivertonmuseum.org.uk for information. Sessions run 11:00 to 12:3O and 2:00 to 3:30.

Barney's Bunch December

  • 16 December 2015 1:30-2:30pm

Theme: Christmas. All sessions run 1.3O-2.3O. £2 per child/£1.5O members (admission charge does not apply). Yahoo! Christmas is almost here, come along and explore the museum Christmas themed stories, games and crafts. Please call or email education@tivertonmuseum.org.uk to book a place.

Welcome to the home of the Virtual Victorians. Here you can take a look at a typical week in our lives and ask us questions.
In the "Themes Gallery" you can see many of the things we use, and some things that we would like to be able to afford to use! You can even play with some of the children's favourite toys!
