PERRANZABULOE, meaning 'Perran in the sands', is one of the largest parishes in Cornwall. The biggest centre of population is PERRANPORTH where the Museum is located. The Museum's exhibits form an interesting insight into the life and history of Perranzabuloe parish - from its earliest beginnings; the arrival of St Piran; the growth of fishing, farming and mining; the development and closure of the railway; to the tourist resort it has become today.
The villages and hamlets in the parish include Bolingey, Callestick, Goonhavern, Rejerrah, Penwartha, Perranwell, Rose and Ventongimps, also the areas of Lambriggan, Lambourne, Penhallow, Reen, Rejerrah and Silverwell.
There are many farms, small-holdings and light industries based in the parish.
The Museum is run by local volunteers who are responsible for its upkeep, stewarding and fund-raising.
A Friends scheme is an important source of help and support.
PERRANZABULOE MUSEUM WAS THE FIRST VOLUNTEER-RUN MUSEUM IN CORNWALL TO RECEIVE ACCREDITATION FROM ACE, ARTS COUNCIL ENGLAND, IN OCTOBER 2012.
