The North Norfolk Railway is a working museum, providing an insight into railway transport in East Anglia over the last 130 years or so. Trains run, as per timetable, between Sheringham and Holt, a distance of 5 1/4 miles.

The working collection includes everything on the railway, including locomotives, coaches, wagons, signals and signalboxes, stations and other buildings, right down to the large collection of original signs.

Our collections policy allows us to collect railway items to interpret our railway heritage in East Anglia, especially that of the M&GN Joint Railway.

Tracks & Trenches; Railways in the Great War

Step back 100 years and find out about the significant role the Railways played during the Great War. With a series of exhibitions, entertainment, living history, pop-up museums and more, Tracks & Trenches will demonstrate how vital it was to keep the trains moving during the First World War.
From transporting the troops to returning the wounded, keeping rations flowing to the front and taking soldiers back to ‘Blighty’ for their well-earned leave, the Railways were tasked with all of this and so much more.
Discover how, and who kept these important lines of supply running and how it affected life at home.
