Life Above and Below Stairs at Audley End

Put on your apron and get your riding crop at the ready as you join us as Audley End is brought to life this weekend. Come face to face with Mrs Crocombe as she prepares a meal for the family, bump into the stablehand while they’re grooming the horses, and meet Governess Miss Dormer and the nursemaid as they organise the children for the day. Costumed characters will bring Audley End back to its Victorian heyday every weekend throughout the summer.

Show off your spooktacular costumes and frighten our fearless staff – but don’t forget your favourite teddy to hide behind!

Victorian Values Discovery Visit

Explore the life of a Victorian servant in a completely different way - meet Mrs Warwick, the formidable housekeeper to the Braybrooke family at Audley End House. Students will find out about life in the Service Wing and hear the tales of the servants who toiled there, before trying their hand at activities such as sheet-folding and vegetable preparation in the new purpose-built education room. Groups are encouraged to come dressed in Victorian costume. Servants' aprons are provided.
Duration: 1 1/2 hours

Book a free tour to follow the workshop and use it to compare the grand rooms of the masters with the stark accommodation for the servants.
