Castle Cornet is Guernsey's ancient harbour fortress, which was isolated upon a rocky islet until the construction of a breakwater and bridge in the 19th century. Dating from the 13th century it was periodically upgraded, withstanding sieges during the Hundred Years War and English Civil Wars. It last saw action when it was occupied by the Germans in World War II.

The castle contains a number of museums. The Maritime Museum tells the story of Guernsey's relationship with the sea. It also includes a display about the Gallo-Roman wreck recovered from the nearby harbour mouth in 1985. The Story of Castle Cornet interprets the history of Castle Cornet, using a variety of reconstructions, replicas, models and original artefacts.

The Militia Museum tells the story of the Royal Guernsey Militia and houses many regimental relics. The RGLI Museum tells the story of the Royal Guernsey Light Infantry in the Great War and includes a tableau of the Battle of Cambrai. 201 Squadron RAF Museum tells the story of "Guernsey's Own" squadron from its foundation in the Great War to the present day.

The Castle also includes four small period gardens.
