A small, lively Borough museum, based in the centre of Camberley. The Museum’s collections are particularly strong in 19th and 20th century domestic materials, 20th century costume, natural history and photographs. We have a large reserve collection, and displays on topics of local and of wider interest.

Washday Talk and Object Handling Session

A schools session based around the hard work involved in laundry c 1880 - 1920. These explored include the volume and type of laundry, labour intensiveness and the complexity of the process. Available to schools within Surrey Heath or the immediate area. Session is about an hour. Includes photographs and objects. Offsite talks - up to 60 children. Charge applies - £16.50 - £20.00 depanding on location. per talk within Borough. Please ring for details. In ceratin circumstances transport required. Some limited participation.

Playthings Past - Talk and Object Handling Session

Playthings Past is a workshop that looks at a delightful selection of early toys and games, including dolls, tin toys, and playground objects, and is used by many schools in the area. During Playthings Past, children investigate materials and compare old and new toys. Available to schools within Surrey Heath or the immediate area. Session is about an hour/ hour and a half. Includes photographs and objects, a materials sorting exercise and a sketching session. Offsite talks - up to 60 children. Schooldays - Talk and Object Handling Session

Schooldays session which includes a practical workshop using quills, copybooks and slates, and fascinating images of schools in the area in times gone by. This is very popular with children, who enjoy finding out about Victorian school activities, handling learning aids, and doing the writing exercises using real feather quills and ink-dip pens. Available to schools within Surrey Heath or the immediate area. Session is about an hour. Includes photographs and objects. Offsite talks - up to 60 children. Various Object Handling Sessions, Talks and Workshops

Surrey Heath Museum offers services to schools in the Borough both on- and off-site. We are able to give introductory talks on the story of Surrey Heath; its early history, life on the heathland, the highwaymen and the army connection. We also offer object-handling sessions that fit into the National Curriculum. We can adapt the sessions to fit into Key Stages 1 to 3. Sketching of objects during sessions is also encouraged.
