Discover a world of surprises in one of Britain's oldest museums, founded in 1835.
From local archaeology to cultures of distant lands, from fossils to today's wildlife, from Tudor beds to fine ceramics to Ancient Egypt, Saffron Walden Museum owes the scope and depth of its collections to its long history and many generous benefactors.
This award-winning, "friendly, family-size museum" is set in an enclosed grass meadow, suitable for picnics, with a small car park and access for disabled visitors. It stands beside the ruins of the 12th century Walden Castle.
