Island Steam Days

  • 13 September 2015
  • 11 October 2015

Head back to the 1940s when lorry transport was in its infancy, to discover how the railways provided all our daily transport, taking food from the farm to the factory to the shops, and distributing goods and products from the ports to the towns.

As well as our scheduled passenger service our Heritage Goods Train will be in operation. Plus, explore our Train Story Discovery Centre and learn the story of our Victorian and Edwardian railway vehicles, and their lasting impact on all our lives!

The Heritage Goods Train runs to a special Working Timetable which can be seen HERE. Please note that passengers cannot be carried on the goods train.

The 41st Island Steam Show

  • 28 — 31 August 2015 *on now

Bursting with surprises, the 41st Island Steam Show is an action-packed show and great family day out!

There’s bundles of fun in the main arena with Jez Avery who's stunt shows have thrilled audiences in all parts of the United Kingdom. Witness an amazing show on 4 wheels, 2 wheels, 1 wheel and even no wheels!! The show includes wheelies, stoppies, drifting, doughnuts, precision driving, two wheel driving and the all new roll over quad... Jez performs all his own stunts while delivering his famous commentary keeping the whole family on the edge of their seats and laughing along...

Cheer as the Medieval Knights of the Crusade prove that the age of Chivalry is far from over – And boo at the villainous Black Knight!

See silly things to do with traction engines, watch in awe at the Birds of Prey and enjoy a variety of displays to keep the whole family entertained!

These stunning shows in the main arena will make you gasp, cheer and laugh, while in our ‘Comedy & Entertainment’ arena Mr. Alexander’s Travelling Show returns to enthrall and amuse, plus there’s humorous tales, comedy and oddball skills with Greg Chapman’s Condensed Histories. And there’s a terrific line-up of live bands and music to enjoy each day on the new Woodland Stage.

Around the Show, climb aboard the traditional fairground rides, marvel at the fascinating working steam demonstrations, relish the sight of beautifully maintained traction engines, vintage cars, motorcycles and old wagons, or simply settle back for a steam train ride through the Island's unspoilt countryside. To complete your day out, meet the Blackfoot Lodge in their Red Indian encampment, browse around the fascinating stalls, pick up a bargain from the country crafts, cool down with an ice cream or a glass of your favourite tipple from our Real Ale bar, and enjoy a good variety of refreshments.

The Island Steam Show will make your August Bank Holiday a weekend to remember!
