The newly refurbished Hertford Museum opened in February 2010, thanks to the generous support of the Heritage Lottery Fund, and many other kind donations. It was established in 1903 and is located in a 17th century town house with an attractive Jacobean style garden.
The displays on the ground floor tell the story of the early days of the museum, where objects from all over the world where collected, including exotic animals, Japanese armour and fossils. The whole of the first floor of the museum is dedicated to telling the story of the town and the townsfolk. A ring of Hertford faces shows Hertford’s famous and good. Visitors can find out about these people by dialling an old phone.
Find out all about childhood in Hertford, free time, health and wellbeing, shopping and the many industries that have shaped the town. See how big Hertford Castle really was with our model of the building in 1550. Find out all about the Hertfordshire Regiment and the stories of local men and women who fought and worked for their country.
