A trip to Forty Hall & Estate is a memorable day out for all of the family.
Forty Hall is a Grade 1 listed Jacobean Manor House, nestled in leafy Enfield and set amidst pleasure gardens, ancient royal parkland, majestic trees, lakes and watercourses.
A venture in to the Hall promises to delight and impress. Our permanent exhibition tells the story of Forty Hall & Estate throughout the ages and looks at the life and times of Sir Nicholas Rainton and life in the seventeenth century. With a range of visual and audio interpretation and displays there are ample ways for all of the family to engage with learning about the Hall in an enjoyable way.
A range of guided tours are also on offer at the Hall, led by a Jacobean character, to add value to your visit and further your understanding of the Hall’s history. With tours that focus on Sir Nicholas Rainton, the Hall’s stunning architecture and the story of Forty Hall & Estate there are plenty to choose from with a tour specially devised for children coming soon! Remember to visit the Forty Hall Shop, located at the end of the Long Gallery to pick up a memorable souvenir from your visit, have lunch in the Courtyard Café and explore the gardens and parkland whilst you are here!

Forty Hall is a Grade 1 listed building, dating from the 17th century. It's displays include: 17th and 18th century furniture and pictures, ceramics, glass, maps, and local history.

First Fruits Festival
Celebrate the bounty of the grounds and experience the first fruits and vegetables of the season! Featuring family workshops including:
• Potato Printing
• Herb Pomander-making
• Peacock Pie Making
Don’t miss, historical cookery demonstrations with Claire Passaris who will be cooking vegetables from the allotments of Enfield using C17th recipes.
Music from the UK’s only professional vegetable orchestra! TV and radio favourite The London Vegetable Orchestra perform on instruments made
entirely of fresh vegetables! Plus adult community violin group, Strung Out will perform alongside Walthamstow Acoustic Massive (WAM) for a ‘massive’
acoustic sing-alonga-play-alonga-thon With over 50 singers and players!
With food and drink stalls and Enfield in Bloom. Stop by the exhibitions in the Long Gallery and Inner Courtyard, before checking in on the Knot Garden!

Forty Hall Knot Garden Project
See the Large Courtyard transformed as never before with its very first temporary garden inspired by 17thC knot garden design. Popular during the reign of Henry VIII and Queen Elizabeth I, the knot garden comprises of a delicious array of herbs and aromatic plants. This ambitious ecological project represents the journey of spring to summer. We celebrate growth and produce on the Estate – a landscape of plenty.
In partnership with Russel Clark, a curator from the Garden Museum and CEPO. If you are interested in being involved with the upkeep and development of the garden contact us for details.

Encountering Elsyng Palace
The remains of the Tudor Palace in the grounds of Forty Hall come to life once more with an exciting excavation. Come and see the
excavation in July and take part in fun, family activities themed around archaeology of the site. In August come and explore the artefacts that
have been found from the palace! With follow-up family activities.
Delivered in partnership with the Enfield Archaeological Society, with workshops delivered by Enfield Museum Service.

Rainton Pageant & Lord Mayor's Show 2013

Junction 25 off the M25. Follow the heritage signs from the junction of Bullsmoor Lane or Carterhatch Lane on the A10.
By train:
From North - Turkey Street and 20 minute walk. From Central London - Enfield Town, Enfield Chase or Southbury and 191 bus to Forty Hill.
By tube:
Oakwood (Piccadilly Line) then buses 307 or 121 to Enfield Town Windmill Hill, then 191 to Forty Hill
By bus:
191 or W10 to roundabout at Myddelton Avenue and then 10 minute walk up Forty Hill.
