Welcome to Didcot Railway Centre, home of the Great Western Society and its unique collection of Great Western Railway steam engines, coaches, wagons, buildings and small relics set in 22 acres alongside Didcot Parkway railway station. At its heart is the historic engine shed which is home to Great Western steam engines . Three running lines, one of Brunel's broad gauge, gives a taste of travel in the 19th and early 20 centuiries. The atmoshere is completed by stations, signal boxes and other original lineside features brought from locations around the GWR system. On Steamdays and other special events you will be able to ride in 1930s carriages behind a range of steam locomotives, as well as the diesel railcar and the steam railmoter built in 1908, and used to carry visitors to the 1908 Olympics at Shepherd's Bush. Visitors can also see typical activities of a steam age depot, including turning and coaling There is a museum and archivedisplaying the smaller artefacts and original colour posters, a Science, Learning and Railways interactive displays, the original air raid shelter from 1940 plus shop and refreshment room.
