Located in Winchester Guildhall, above the Tourist Information Centre, the Historic Environment Centre is a search room where members of the public can consult aspects of the Museums Service collections and meet members of staff by appointment only. Also museums' education service based there and the Historic Environment Record - a database and associated information of all known historic sites and monuments across the district.

It replaces the former resources centre based at Hyde, and brings the services formerly provided there into the centre of town for greater convenience.
