Brooklands was the first purpose-built motor racing circuit in the world in 1907. It was also one of the most prolific aircraft production sites in Europe, with over 18,500 aircraft built or assembled at Brooklands by companies such as Vickers, Hawker, BAC and British Aerospace.

The Sunbeam Cafe is open all day during normal Museum opening hours. Hot lunches are served and a fine selection of teas and cakes throughout the day.

Our library is open to the public by appointment only.

The 30 acre Museum site displays a wide range of Brooklands- related motoring and aviation exhibits reflecting many great engineering and technological acievements throughout the 20th Century. These range from the 1933, 24-litre Napier-Railton racing car to a Wellington Bomber recovered from Loch Ness; a unique collection of Vickers/BAC-built aircraft and the only Concorde publically accessible in the South East. The Motoring Village also displays Brooklands record braking and Grand Prix cars, racing motorcycles and bicycles.

Classic Breakfast

Brooklands Classic Breakfast

This Year we will be holding three classic breakfasts, Winter (February 16th), Spring (May 18th) and Autumn (October 26th). This is your chance to meet up with like-minded vintage and classic vehicle enthusiasts, have breakfast and admire the cars and motorbikes on show. The Motoring Village will open at 9.30am and the rest of the Museum will be open as usual from 10am. Subject to weather, Test Hill will be in action after breakfast with a briefing at 10.15am.


Breakfast is served in our Sunbeam Café from 8am - 9.45am and will include tea & coffee, sausage, bacon, scrambled egg, hash brown, tomatoes, beans, toast and butter. Childrens’ breakfasts are three of the above items + toast + drink.

Auto Italia Test Hill

Auto Italia - Italian Car Day

  • 3 May 2014 10am-5pm

This will be Auto Italia’s 29th Spring gathering - the UK’s first and finest all-Italian car event. Expect the site to be bursting with all types of Italian cars (and motorbikes). Test Hill demonstration will be taking place, in addition to action on the Mercedes-Benz World circuit. In previous years there have been over 200 Ferraris alone! This year there will be just as much to see and do, including many trade and club stands so come early, bring your camera and plan the whole day at Brooklands!

Advanced tickets will be available online and from the museum shop.
Italian cars should enter the Museum site via the Campbell Gate off Brooklands Road (with a fast access lane for ticket holders). Parking for visitors in non-Italian cars will be in The Heights off Wellington Way - please follow event signage.

Get up close to the forces and chat to experts about their particular field - we are looking forward to welcoming many local service representing the Police, Fire and Rescue Services, the Red Cross and countless other vital heroic organisations from our community.

1940s Day

The 1940s Relived - From the Home Front to the Front Line

  • 17 May 2014 10am-10pm

This is a chance to put your hair up, grab your best period outfit and lace up the dance shoes. You could head down to our street party, where you will be able to refresh yourself with some food and drink, take part in a dance lesson, or put your Jive, Jitterbug and Lindy Hop into practice. Over at the trade stalls you will be able to update your vintage wardrobe, but beware of some shady characters such as Spivs trying to sell you black market goods. Details of the event will be posted on our website soon.

Bertie takes a car ride

Half Term Family Activities

On weekdays (excluding Bank Holidays) during Half Term, our popular car rides will be operating from 11am-1pm and from 2-3.30pm (subject to weather). Take a trip in a vintage-style car up Test Hill or along the Members’ Banking of the old Race Track, courtesy of the Brooklands Volunteer Car Rides Team.

Look out for Bertie the Brooklands Bear, who will be making guest appearances, or pick up one of our trails for children up to 12 years old. We will be running special family workshops, visit our website for details.

Double 12

The Brooklands Double Twelve Motorsport Festival

  • 14 — 15 June 2014 10am-5pm

Once again, expected to be the biggest motoring competition held at Brooklands since 1939, it is being organised in association with the Vintage Sports-Car Club and held on the weekend closest to the Anniversary of its original opening date of 17th June 1907.

This will be the format in 2014 with the three stand-alone events:

The Double Twelve Speed Trials on the Mercedes-Benz World circuit on Saturday 14th June
The Double Twelve Concours held on Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th June
The Double Twelve Driving Tests on Sunday 15th June

As well as the main competitions, the Test Hill Challenge will also take place on Saturday. This will involve everything from Sinclair C5s, bicycles and motorcycles to giant pre-war racing cars and running races for energetic children up the punishing 352ft (107m) concrete slope. Some vehicles may even head down the Hill in a test of their brakes.

With family entertainment once again planned throughout the site and lots more attractions to be announced, this is a weekend for everyone!

Ace Cafe

Ace Cafe Ton-Up Day

Brooklands will once again come alive with the sights, sounds and smells of some exceptional motorcycles. Motorcycle enthusiasts, no matter what they ride or from what era, all are welcome to come and enjoy the spectacle.

Giving this event a unique flavour, Brooklands Museum are assembling some of the most significant pre-War and post-War racing machines and the Ace is inviting the attendance of owners of cafe racers and bikes that evoke the spirit of the “Ton-Up Boys” (and girls!) and of the Rockers of the 1950s and ‘60s. Motorcycle enthusiasts, no matter what they ride or from what era, all are welcome to come and enjoy the spectacle.

Car raleigh

Supercar Day

Building on the success of last year’s Supercar day, this new all-marques event will feature demonstrations on the Mercedes-Benz World track for exotic and exclusive modern and classic cars including Maseratis, Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Mercedes-Benz, Jaguars, top end Alfa Romeos, Aston Martins, Bugattis, Rolls Royces, Porsches, Bentleys and the odd Koenigsegg. A unique opportunity for visitors to enjoy supercars at close quarters.

Retrojumble

Brooklands RetroJumble and Classic Car Show

  • 27 July 2014 10am-5pm

Last year there were over 60 stands selling everything from vintage clothing to motoring memorabilia and car boot jumbles, including:

- Vintage/ retro gifts and clothing
- Motoring and aviation memorabilia
- Models, tools, art, books and badges
and much more!

In addition to the stands, there will once again be a classic car show. Launched in 2013, the car show will come back for its second year bigger and better. More information about this and how to apply for a RetroJumble stall will be available closer to the date.

Aircraft Factory

Brooklands Great War 100

  • 3 August 2014 10am-5pm

For this special event we will be gathering automobiles, motorcycles, bicycles, commercial vehicles, buses and aircraft from the period up to 1919.

In the paddock there will be a display of the vehicles taking part in the Great War Centenary Parade in London on the 4th August. At lunchtime these pre-war vehicles will be taking part in a Cavalcade round the Mercedes-Benz World circuit.

Overhead will be a stunning air show from the Great War Display Team who will be flying their replicas of a Sopwith Triplane, a BE2 and an SE5.

On the ground our own aircraft will be making a grand entrance too and, as well as running the Sopwith Camel, we hope to bring the Vimy to life, for the first time since it flew in in 2009.

In the Clubhouse there will be period film shows and London Bus Museum will be putting on a display of buses from the era.

Every weekday this summer holiday (from 4th – 29th August, excluding Bank Holiday Monday 25th) our popular car rides will be operating from 11am-1pm and from 2-4pm (subject to weather). For a requested donation of £1, take a trip in a vintage-style car up Test Hill and along the Members’ Banking of the old Brooklands Race Track, courtesy of the Brooklands Volunteer Car Rides Team. There will be guest appearances from Bertie the Brooklands Bear as well as Trails for children up to 12 years old.

The London Bus Museum, Motoring Village, Museum shop and Sunbeam Café will all be open. We will also be running special family workshops throughout the holiday.
