Make and Mend: Needlework Skills Through The Years

Make and Mend Needlework: Skills Through The Years

  • 29 February — 29 October 2016 *on now

What do you do if you fancy some new clothes or your children are growing out of theirs? Do you rush out and buy something from the vast number of shops we now have or do you look through your wardrobe to see if you can make a new dress or some children’s clothes out of old suits and dresses hanging in your wardrobe? What did you do when clothes were in short supply, rationed or there was no money?
Our display of needlework skills through the years tries to answer these questions. It includes tools that were used to make or mend items of clothing and also includes finished and repaired items of clothing.

Suitable for

  • Any age

Admission is included in the museum's normal admission prices.
