Wymondham Soldiers 1911

Wymondham and World War One

This display, presented in a series of panels, is part of the nationwide commemoration of the First World War Centenary which will describe the impact of the war on the inhabitants of Wymondham.

The life story of Harry Daniels, Norfolk’s first World War One Victoria Cross hero, who was born in Wymondham will be told. Also the experiences of Wymondham men in the Gallipoli campaign will be illustrated in their letters, diaries and photographs. Those who lost their lives, are all named on a display which shows where they are remembered in Wymondham and on memorials all over the world. Some are covered in more detail showing how their deaths affected their families and the community.

You can also find out about the local people who ran the Red Cross Hospital at Abbotsford, one of Wymondham’s finest houses and how the whole town raised money to help with its expenses.

Church and School Wicklewood

Focus on Wicklewood 1914 - 2014

Wicklewood Archive Group are presenting a portrait of their village for the museum covering the years 1914 - 2014.
In this centenary year it will feature the World War One village memorial and those remembered on it, as well as the church, the school, the re-opened windmill and the historic workhouse.
