Thetford's Ancient House has recently benefitted from a £1.6 million renovation, which has gone towards conserving the Grade I listed Tudor merchant's house and creating up-to-date displays.

The atmospheric crooked house tells the remarkable story of Thetford and the Brecks. Discover rich collections alongside audio guides, films and animations.

Meet local people from Thetford's past, from the revolutionary philosopher Thomas Paine to the Sikh hero Maharajah Duleep Singh and from rabbit warreners to railway workers.

Take time out in the re-planted garden and don't miss the brand new museum shop in its oak pavilion. Allow about an hour and a half for a visit.

Bronze Arts Award in a Week!

8 — 13 July 2013

If you are aged between 10 and 14 years and love history and art you can gain a nationally recognised qualification in just one week. You will also have the chance to explore behind the scenes at the museum, make your own display, learn new skills and try out a brand new Tudor themed app.

Admission

Cost: £120 per child or £110 for Friends and Museums Pass Holders.
Advanced booking essential. Places must be booked by 21 June.

History Club

Club for children interested in historical enquiry. The group meets on Wednesdays after school at the Ancient House Museum of Thetford Life. There is currently an open waiting list to join.
