Museum created by PHG Powell-Cotton (1866-1940) housing his collections from 25 expeditions to Africa and 5 trips to SE Asia between 1889 and 1939 (26 years actually on African soil). Three galleries of amazing animal diorama displays - the finest in this country - depicting more than 250 African and Asian mammals against their natural habitats. A further five large galleries displaying a vast collection of African ethnographic artefacts, European firearms, European and Asian cutting weopons, European porcelain and Chinese export and imperial porcelain, and important archaeological finds from Thanet and East Kent. Six public rooms in the Regency House showing Oriental and English period furniture, English and Dutch glass and a small collection of clocks.
