The Museum was founded in 1813 and is the oldest collection specifically of clocks, watches and marine timekeepers in the world. It has been open to the public (free) since 1873. Its collection belongs to the Worshipful Company of Clockmakers (a guild founded by Royal Charter in 1631), the oldest surviving horological institution in the world. Although the museum consists of only a single room, the collection it contains is truly magnificent.
