Take some time out in the town centre's only oasis of calm. Step back in time and visit the fifteenth century timber framed house, once the home to William Gilberd, scientist and physician to Elizabeth I, and now home to Colchester's fine collection of clocks and watches.

Tymperleys now houses part of the famous Bernard Mason Collection, one of the largest collections of clocks in Britain. All the clocks were made in Colchester between 1640 and 1840 and give a fascinating insight into this specialist trade.
