The museum’s onsite services remain temporarily suspended. However many of the museum's public events have been rescheduled to take place at alternative venues in Southwark. Please go to the Cuming Museum's website to further details.

The Cuming Museum's collection is unique and eclectic. When the museum opened in 1906 it was described as "the British Museum in miniature". The collection ranges from natural history, science, costume and textiles to world collections covering at least 50 different countries. The collection was put together by the Cuming family between 1788 and 1902. You can find out about the collection at www.southwarkcollections.org.uk

Get inspired by this series of three practical workshops exploring the craft and creative potential of clay. Led by artist Judith Lunn, participants will be shown a range of construction and decorative techniques to create their own ceramic pieces to take home. Drop in for one workshop or develop your skills over the course of three sessions.

The workshops are free and there is no need to book. Places are limited to 15 and allocated on a first come, first served basis. Registration is from 5.30pm on the evening of each session.

History of Southwark ESOL session

ESOL students can develop their reading, writing, speaking and listening skills whilst learning about the history of Southwark. The session explores the diversity of the borough, the people who have migrated to the area and the reasons that bought them here. The session can be adjusted for Entry Levels 1 - 3 and Levels 1 and 2, and is relevant to Citizenship. Sessions run for approximately 1 hour. Group size: up to 20 people.

Migration and Diversity: Citizenship Workshop (KS2)

A hands-on education session for KS2 school groups led by museum staff at the Cuming Museum. Uses maps and object handling to explore migrations to the Caribbean and to Southwark, encouraging children to learn about diversity and identity. Supports KS2 Citizenship.
Group size: up to 30 pupils.
Duration: 90 minutes.
Sessions start at 10:00 am and 1:30 pm Tuesday to Friday.
