The 11th edition of Oxfordshire’s annual science extravaganza offers enough fun and games to get even the most studious lab hands excited.

You can find out about quantum mechanics in a talk going under the title of The Most Amazing Things in the Universe, debate what zoos should do with surplus animals in the picturesque surroundings of Cotswold Wildlife Park, pick the brains of geneticists courtesy of Science Oxford Live or enjoy a sprawling bazaar at Oxford Brookes University.

The month of enlightenment launches in Bonn Square (February 26 2011) with Science in your World, featuring levitating magnets, bike-powered computers, model brains and sessions based on the inventions of Wallace and Gromit.

The new Interactive Dinosaur Gallery at the Oxfordshire Museum will spend the day hosting dinosaur feeding, a dinosaur puppet theatre, fossil identification, fancy dress, mask making and face painting among other animalistic activities.

“Oxfordshire is world famous for outstanding scientific discoveries and we have some of the greatest minds working on our doorstep,” says Festival Patron Professor Marcus du Sautoy, leafing through the programme of more than 110 events.

“The festival gives you the opportunity to meet and talk to world-class scientists and have a go at science yourself.”

Science Oxford Live will also host the Wildlife Photographer of the Year show until March 13, and an accompanying session on March 9 will look at the art of taking beautiful snaps of nature.
