A £1.5 million, three-year improvement scheme for 25 parks and open spaces across Coventry is expected to be approved by city councillors next week.

Play areas, fencing, community facilities and sports pitch improvements are among the plans, largely funded by housing site developers with a strong emphasis on community involvement and consensus.

Councillor Tim Sawdon, Cabinet Member, Culture, Leisure and Libraries, said the ratification would be "great news" for the West Midlands city.

"We know that many people see their local green space as really important places for play, taking exercise and bringing their community together," he added.

"I hope that the announcement of this large-scale improvement programme will show the city council's ongoing commitment to making Coventry an attractive and enjoyable place to be."

The works are scheduled to begin in April.
