A party from the Manchester Museum of Science and Industry are travelling to the House of Commons today (May 12 2009) to lobby Parliament for a full refund of the £900,000 in education funding lost by the institution in the Icelandic banking collapse.

Museum Director Steve Davies and his management team are bidding to salvage funds which would have developed their "vitally important" educational programme for 100,000 schoolchildren this year, as well as major refurbishment of MOSI's main building.

"We are lobbying hard to press our case and keep the pressure on to make our voice heard," said Davies, who will attend a meeting hosted by Manchester Central MP Tony Lloyd after the Treasury Select Committee recommended that charities were "special cases" and should be fully compensated.

An Early Day Motion has been signed by eight members of the committee and three other MPs ahead of an expected Government decision on June 4.
