A tiny replica of the famous Beagle ship Charles Darwin used on an epic five-year world tour has been revealed at the World Museum Liverpool.

The 1:64 scale model has gone on display as part of the Merseyside centre’s Voyage of the Beagle show, which features telescopes, compasses and pistols similar to those used by the evolutionary scientist in pursuit of his groundbreaking theories.

Drawer and display cases containing specimens linked to Darwin’s studies including fossils, snails, moths and butterflies are also on show, and an accompanying Discovery Trail poses a series of questions about Darwin-themed exhibits dotted around the museum.
